Medical Receptionist Position

The Department of Medicine at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Receptionist to join the team.

This position is responsible for scheduling follow up orders, lab order requisition, clinical summary printing at end of visit, calling no show predictability scoring pts for medium/high risk, rescheduling appointments as needed for any schedule changes within the divisions of the DOM: GIM, Infectious Disease, Sickle Cell and Rheumatology.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient check out functions, including scheduling follow-up appointments and ensuring patient understand next steps in care.
• Provide courteous, professional, and patient-centered service during all interactions, both in person and via phone.
• Support a seamless end-of-visit experience by reinforcing instructions and addressing scheduling needs.
• Ensure compliance with departmental, EVMS/ODU, and regulatory policies and procedures.
• Assist with reporting and perform additional administrative duties as needed to support back end operations.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
• Complete EPIC tasks in accordance with Medical Group Standards.
• Contact patient regarding bumped or adjusted appointments and assist with timely rescheduling.
• Maintain and manage EPIC in-baskets, including timely message review and task completion.
• Maintain and manage all scheduling reports to ensure patients receive timely follow up regarding visits.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of patient information within EPIC.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Must be highly organized with outstanding customer service-oriented attitude and have the ability to adapt and work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in a medical office setting is highly desired but not required.
