Shift: 2nd Shift - 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (30-minute lunch)
Rate of Pay: $26.00 per hour (No per diem available)
Security Clearance: Not Required

DESCRIPTION

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Journeyperson 4 Shipfitters to support ship construction and repair operations in the Steel Shop in Norfolk, Virginia. This 2nd shift position requires advanced shipfitting skills, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to independently plan and execute structural work with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and complete shipfitting work using blueprints and technical drawings with minimal supervision
• Perform layout of plates, pipes, and structural shapes, including:
  • Flat layouts
  • Projection layouts
  • Compound angle layouts
• Identify and locate ship structures using frames, longitudinal stringers, centerlines, and ship nomenclature
• Interpret weld symbols and understand material preparation requirements
• Perform tack welding and burning operations
• Safely operate power tools such as:
  • Shears
  • Saws
  • Presses
  • Grinders and other fabrication equipment
• Create templates for fabrication and installation of ship structures
• Assemble foundations, deck houses, and specialized structural components
• Follow 5S workplace organization guidelines
• Maintain awareness of applicable NAVSEA Standard Items

REQUIREMENTS

Journeyperson 4 Qualifications

• Proven experience as a J4 Shipfitter in a shipyard environment
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and ship drawings
• Advanced knowledge of structural layout and fabrication
• Working knowledge of weld symbols and structural preparation
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and shipyard safety requirements

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports to Steel Shop Supervisor or Foreman
• Works alongside welders, inspectors, and other skilled trades
• Coordinates with Quality Assurance and Safety teams

ACCOUNTABILITY

• Responsible for completing structural fitting work in accordance with specifications
• Ensures safety compliance and adherence to NAVSEA standards
• Maintains high workmanship quality and productivity
• Supports overall Steel Shop production objectives
