NSC Staffing is seeking a Barge Services Mechanic for an exciting opportunity to perform advanced maintenance, repair, and installation tasks on barge systems and equipment within the shipyard. This role is ideal for experienced mechanics with strong technical knowledge and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to ensure reliable operation of shipyard services.

Position Overview:
As a Barge Services Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of barge systems, including mechanical, plumbing, communication, electrical, CHT, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. You will diagnose and resolve issues, perform upgrades, and ensure compliance with technical specifications and safety standards. This position requires flexibility, precision, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and complex maintenance and repair tasks on barge systems and shipboard equipment.
  • Install, align, and secure mechanical systems and components per technical specifications and blueprints.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and technical expertise.
  • Execute upgrades and modifications to improve system performance and safety.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Collaborate with other trades and departments to meet project timelines.
  • Mentor and train assigned crew members as needed.


Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a barge mechanic or completion of a registered apprenticeship program.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation.
  • Knowledgeable in the operation and repair of all barge systems, including mechanical, plumbing, communication, electrical, CHT, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and be on call 24/7.


Work Schedule:
  • Shifts: 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday and 4-hour shifts Saturday-Sunday.
  • Must be available for holidays and on-call support 24/7.
