Production Planning Manager
Purpose:
The Production Planning Manager is a key management role that is responsible for planning, preparing, and managing production schedules utilizing various systems to ensure development and adherence to a master schedule. Additionally, the position oversees the development and implementation of relevant planning procedures, policies and working practices through all areas of responsibility and will regularly interface with various departments and teams across the organization to ensure on-time delivery of fabrication projects.
Position is responsible for aligning Planning's daily operations to departmental, divisional, and corporate-level strategic goals while providing personnel management responsibilities to the Planning team (hiring, performance management, workforce development, coaching/counselling/disciplinary, etc.).
The position is located onsite in Norfolk VA and may require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations, as needed. Position may require limited travel.
Job Description:
Key elements of the position include:
- Manage planning department operations, and support personnel, to develop detailed schedules, material requirements, and production plans for complex production/manufacturing projects.
- Develop, implement, train, and oversee planning's best practices, policies/procedures, instructions, and daily work tasking while standardizing/documenting processes through CSI's Quality Management System while supporting the division's continuous improvement goals.
- Implement systems and operations to optimize utilization of division's assets, resources, and workforce.
- Develop and provide accurate metrics and reporting to company leadership, various business units, and customers (as required) and regularly communicate project progress against plans while identifying and resolving conflicts/roadblocks.
Additionally, position will:
- Develop, oversee, and ensure execution of production schedules, based on the master schedule, to schedule sequence and lead time of each operation to meet identified completion dates in accordance with established manufacturing sequences and lead times.
- Plan, prepare, issue and control production schedules (of multiple, simultaneous projects) and coordinate all material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials to meet production schedule requirements.
- Coordinate with various manufacturing personnel and departments to ensure production plans are executed in accordance with the master schedule, to include Quality, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, etc.
- Perform key responsibilities utilizing the enterprise resource planning tools, material requirement planning system, and various other business systems. Additionally, this role will maximize utilization of existing business software, and research additional software solutions.
- Troubleshoot operating problems, research acceptable solutions from a business perspective, and implement the selected solutions.
- Implement and manage engineering changes and their impact to master schedules through Engineering Modification Reports, update existing Production Orders and Production Bills of Material (PBOM).
- May assist in the development of customer proposals, bids, or price quotations and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - Position requires bachelor's degree and at least 5 years relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Experience must include management-level support of production planning to include experience supporting logistics, purchasing, material management, and production processes.
- Well-developed skills working with enterprise resource planning (ERP) programs, such as CostPoint/SAP/Floor2Plan, and command of Microsoft Office suite - specifically Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Must have knowledge, understanding, and experience in manufacturing processes, production planning, bill of materials, shop floor controls and costing principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, to include production drawings.
- Must be able to develop and utilize various relational databases in a business environment, with demonstrated analytical/quantitative skills, to create reliable data and metrics for use in developing metrics and progress reports.
- Aptitude to solve problems both independently and in groups.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication abilities supported by strong negotiation, personnel leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to travel up to 10-15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience utilizing AutoCAD (and similar programs) is preferred.
- Experience with CostPoint and/or Floor2Plan highly preferred.
- Project Management Professional certification preferred.
Travel Requirements: - Minimal Travel; 15% or less.
Physical Requirements: - Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
