Position Summary
The PC Support Intern is responsible for providing high level hardware and software support to include installations, troubleshooting, and maintaining corporate computer systems and peripherals. Fields incoming help desk requests from internal employees and provides hands-on technical assistance and training. Maintains an accurate inventory of all desktop, laptop, and computer peripherals. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions
- Supports, maintains and repairs all personal computers (PCs), laptops and peripherals for the Authority.
- Maintain accurate inventory on all computer equipment.
- Updates and maintains computer software.
- Deployment of new computer hardware and software
- Manages computer images, configurations, software, and other various system settings for PC's, laptops, and tablets.
- Researches, tests and advises on new products for computers, mobile devices and peripherals.
- Opening, tracking and closing technical service requests with outside vendors on hardware and software issues.
- Responds to client inquiries concerning system hardware and software issues.
- Performs help desk tasks and assist users in the proper use of equipment, software, and manuals as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Essential Skills and Experience Essential Competencies:
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques of computer support to perform the full range of duties within the field; computer software and hardware operations and equipment (peripherals); principles and practices of computer hardware and software de-bugging and other troubleshooting procedures; English usage, spelling and grammar.
- Ability to operate a variety of computer hardware and software including, but not limited to, desktops, laptops, Mobile Data Computers (MDCs), printers, print servers, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite; install computer hardware and software; diagnose technical problems and determine appropriate action; prioritize and organize work and provide excellent customer service; effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; excel both independently and as a team member in a lively, collaborative environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; communicate with clients in non-technical terms; follow oral and written instructions.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science or related field. If enrolled in an undergraduate program, must be a sophomore, junior or senior upon employment.
Required Licenses/Certifications and other Special Requirements:
Students must have and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

- Physical demands: The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity. Temporary appointment indicates that the employee is scheduled to work up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per work week for less than twelve continuous months; the General Manager may approve a work schedule of 40 hours per work week where the additional work hours serve in the best interest of Prince William Water. Temporary employees shall not receive benefits. Temporary employees are typically hired to perform special tasks for a short duration of time, to relieve periods of high work activity and for summer and winter appointments.
