Note: This role is known as Retail Storage Supervisor (>51M) in NEXCOM.

Job Summary

Responsible for managing a retail back-up storage area, including receiving, storing, issuing merchandise, laying out back-up storage area floor plans, reallocating storage space, and overseeing the custody of equipment and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist multiple outlying warehouse locations by maintaining necessary documentation for layaways and overseeing will-call and chargeback functions.
  2. Manage activities related to receipt inspection, quality control, ticketing, picking, consolidation, storage, packing, and transportation of merchandise.
  3. Control merchandise from receipt to placement on the sales floor, ensuring proper disposition of receipts, identifying deficiencies, and initiating corrective actions.
  4. Plan layout and utilization of the receiving area, recommend procurement of material handling equipment.
  5. Determine methods for inspecting merchandise, maintaining efficiency in receiving, marking, checking, and movement processes.
  6. Analyze material and labor costs, evaluate operating methods, and recommend improvements for space management and service levels.
  7. Conduct inspections of equipment, oversee maintenance, and ensure operational readiness.
  8. Manage and ensure the safe operation of a fleet of vehicles, including maintenance, scheduling, and compliance with regulations.
  9. Provide guidance on vehicle maintenance and safety, review operational data for efficiency, and ensure compliance with policies.
  10. Establish and monitor preventative maintenance programs for vehicles, review repairs, and ensure standards are met.
  11. Coordinate training for personnel on vehicle operation, safety, and HAZMAT procedures.
  12. Supervise subordinate personnel, approve schedules, enforce work rules, develop policies, and foster a cohesive team environment.
  13. Implement Navy Resale Manual and NEXCOM directives, prepare instructional guides, and update operational directives.
  14. Assist in preparing operational reports and analyze center effectiveness.
  15. Supervise inventory counts and ensure safety, security, and housekeeping standards are maintained.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned, working under supervision with work reviewed for objectives and adherence to procedures.

Training and Experience Requirements

Associate must receive HazMat training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations.

Required experience:

  • 3 years of responsible work in areas such as warehousing, purchasing, merchandising, or related fields, providing knowledge of physical distribution support.

OR substitution of education:

  • 1 year of academic study above high school level can substitute for 9 months of experience, up to 4 years of a bachelor's degree for 3 years of experience.

And:

  • 2 years of progressive responsible experience in distribution and warehouse management, or related areas, demonstrating knowledge of distribution systems, materials handling, and supervisory abilities.
