Description

As a Counselor (Program Lead) at the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, you will play a vital role in providing a safe, inclusive, and enriching child care experience for children and youth ages 5-12. You will serve as a mentor, role model, and facilitator, guiding children through a variety of recreational, educational, and character-building activities. By fostering a supportive and positive environment, you will help children develop social skills, build confidence, and create lasting memories.

Requirements

The Counselor (Program Lead) will meet the qualifications set forth by the YMCA of South Hampton Roads and the Virginia Department of Education, Division of Child Care Health and Safety. Minimum qualifications include:

1. Be at least 18 years of age
2. Have a high school diploma or the equivalent
3. Meet the minimum qualifications for "Lead Teacher" as defined by the VA Department of Education Division of Child Care Health and Safety
4. Staff shall be in good character and reputation
5. CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire
6. Completes all pre-employment requirements including background checks
7. Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with children required
8. Ability to be on time, every time for scheduled shifts required
9. Ability to work at various program locations preferred
10. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

BACKGROUND CHECKS:
