As a live-in member of the residence life hall staff, the Village Coordinator works with students in developing a comfortable living environment and assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns. The Village Coordinator provides administrative,supervisory, student personnel, counseling, and conflict resolution skills to the residence hall setting. The university is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Village Coordinators have direct responsibility for the effective administration and community development of two community villages, consisting of 7-8 resident halls housing 350-450 students. Village Coordinators supervise a staff of 15-16 Resident Assistants. The Village Coordinator's primary purpose is to develop and maintain an environment conducive to social and intellectual growth as well as the academic success of resident students. This position's responsibilities include but are not limited to creating and implementing co-curricular engagement within university housing, student staff supervision and development, housing and occupancy administration, student conduct, collaborating with campus partners, etc.

Due to the live-in requirements of the Village Coordinator position, it is required that the on-campus apartment provided must be the individual's primary residence and that person must maintain a high visibility within their residential areas of responsibility. Offices are located in the Student Center located centrally on campus. All VCs participate in an on-call duty rotation and require the individual to work untraditional hours, including evening hours and weekends.

The Village Coordinator position is a 12-month position while enrolled in a graduate program. Summer responsibilities include working on special projects, with conferences, orientation, and summer students.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide guidance, education, and training to 15-16 Resident Assistants
  • Oversee programming and in-service requirements for Resident Assistant staff.
  • Accurately maintain all housing administrative records related to students in areas of responsibility, to include ongoing audit of Health and Safety Inspections.
  • Serve on an on-call duty rotation to address campus issues and emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Respond to emergency/critical incidents related to students in the hall in accordance with Residence Life emergency procedures.
  • Oversee the overall general upkeep and facility care of the assigned area, including regular walk-through tours of the residence hall building to effectively monitor the conditions of the facilities.
  • Work with Maintenance and Housekeeping departments to follow-up on any issues involving residence halls.
  • Assist with recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of RAs.
  • Assist Office of Housing & Residence Life programs and function (e.g., Orientation, Prospective Student Day, Hall Opening & Closings)
  • Assist student conduct and disciplinary meetings with residents
  • Attend/host weekly professional staff meetings and weekly student staff meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required with extra-curricular activities and student leadership experience.
  • Must be an enrolled graduate student at Virginia Wesleyan University and be fully enrolled for the duration of the academic year during which the position is held.
  • Two years direct Residence Life experience preferred

Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position. Village Coordinators receive a furnished apartment at no cost including utilities and a meal plan.
